27-11-10 : Woodcraft at Kingston Hill

Last weekend a group of volunteers from the KU Biodiversity Action Group trekked into the Kingston Hill woodland to learn about woodcraft...

Under the instruction of 'Bushmucker' Mark, we learnt about the uses of the natural resources in our campus woodland and about sustainable woodland management.

We used Elder and Hazel branches to make a whistle, a Sweet Chestnut branch to make a mallet, and saw how fire could be lit using dried wood and seed heads.

Thanks to Mark for an enlightening morning, and to the members of the biodiversity action group who braved the frosty weather.
