The river bank volunteers get ready to pull some cress
May has flown by so fast; we had great weather three weeks ago, when we were working in the river clearing the more dominate watercress and false water cress species away from the new plants.
During the same week we also had our first eel of the season…
unfortunately it came along with a friend…
The Chinese mitten crab is an invasive species which is found on the Thames. As far as we know, this is the first confirmed sighting on the Hogsmill which we have reported here If you see one on in or around our rivers, please report it too.
We ended up doing another impromptu cress clearance on the embankment as the clearance work that we had done two weeks prior had already grown back!

For those of you who had a chance to enjoy the orchard at Dorich House Museum during our orchard day, the museum will be open to the public to showcase a new architecture project which will be at the site for a week. Follow this link for more information and opening times.
Tonight (Friday 29th May) I’m heading out with volunteers to Tolworth Court for our bat walk.
I’ll report on findings during the June newsletter – fingers crossed that we find some roosts :)
